School-based Prevention Services

Sarah seemed like a typical teen to her parents and teachers, but that wasn't the full story. Screened through our in-school Signs of Suicide Program, Sarah was identified as a teen suffering from depression and suicidal ideation. The first step in her recovery was working with her Syntero School Prevention Clinician throughout the school year. Sarah valued the support and was determined to learn and grow through counseling.

The change in Sarah did not go unnoticed. Her mother shared with us that Sarah seems happier, doesn't hibernate in her room and shows enthusiasm for family events and activities.

"It feels like she's talking about her anxieties to me more, too, which gives us the chance to talk about them," her mother told us. "I have no doubt that a large part of all the positive changes I see in Sarah is due to the work she has done with you. Thank you!"

Suicide is the third leading cause of death for teenagers. Syntero's Signs of Suicide Program (SOS) is a school-based prevention services program that screens teens for signs of depression or suicidal ideation. Last year, Syntero provided SOS classroom education focused on youth mental health and suicide prevention to 3169 students in Central Ohio.

For 40 years our counselors, therapists and staff have worked to prevent suicide in teens.
